After knowing the convenience of using iPhone earphone volume control as shutter release, I hold my iPhone in front of me at chest level while I walk up the hill. Reviewing the video, I find some interesting perspectives which would never occur to me under normal circumstances if I were to use my camera to aim and compose the pictures. It might be my lack of imagination that I could never thought of those perspectives. Anyway, I would think that it is a good way of coming up with new perspectives with a mobile phone or a compact camera when you think that there isn't any interesting pictures to be taken around your familiar places.
The light weight and small size of digital compact camera with zoom could be used to explore different views and perspectives by looking at the LCD screen, moving the camera around, zooming in and out to see the effect immediately on screen. After capturing with the compact camera and come up with some satisfactory composition, you might then use your DSLR to have better image quality photographs.
